Real Gases:
Deviations from the Ideal Gas Law
Under non-ideal conditions, real gas particles
– do have volume.
- Meaning, the volume of a gas is
- Volume of gas particles + volume of the flask
- have intermolecular forces.
- Otherwise, a gas could not become a liquid
- Also, this implies that there are attractions between gas particles.
- Collisions are therefore not elastic in nature.
– Pressure of a gas is not just due to the gas particles colliding with the container walls.
