Buffer solutions:

• pH of blood must be kept between 7.35 and 7.45 or you will get sick
• below 7.35 is “acidosis” – diabetes
• above 7.45 is “alkalosis” – intoxication
• the body controls the pH of your blood by using a hydrogen carbonate “buffer” system
